BUILDING OVERVIEW
The structure is a busy, large packaging distribution center at Rickenbacker International Airport near Columbus, Ohio, and is used for overnight
package delivery and distribution. Since it is right at the airport, it receives quite a bit of visibility.
CHALLENGE
The building’s roof was about 20 years old and experiencing leaks on the J panel standing seam metal roof. The packaging company leases the
building from AeroTerm and wanted a leak-free roof before they re-signed their lease. The job needed to be completed in 60 days, which meant working six days a week with a crew of no less than 30 people. A GAF coating was proposed so operation at the airport and facility, which runs
all times of the day, could continue without interruption.
MATERIALS USED
• United Coatings™ Roof Mate Coating
• United Coatings™ Roof Mate Liquid Fabric
• United Coatings™ Roof Mate Spray Grade Flashing
SOLUTION
First, the horizontal seams were sealed using United Coatings™ Roof Mate Liquid Fabric, a flashing material that does not need fabric reinforcement and therefore saves time and money. Next, the vertical seams were treated with United Coatings™ Roof Mate Spray Grade Flashing. Lastly, the
entire roof received two coats of United Coatings™ Roof Mate Coating in a light gray color, which dries quicker than a bright white.
KEY FACT
The owner was afraid TPO or ISO would get blown onto the airport runway or come in contact with a plane or its engine, so a coating was the
best option. Plus, United Coatings™ Roof Mate Coating has very little overspray, which combated the concern that winds of just 10 mph would require work to stop in order to avoid coating blowing onto nearby plane windshields.
