Monsanto R Building

Project Scope:

Headquartered on a campus with more than 20 buildings in the St. Louis suburb of Creve Coeur, Mo., Monsanto chose RSS Roofing Services & Solutions to install a new roof on the two levels of R Building, housing offices.

The roof replacement project consisted of tearing off the existing roof to the concrete deck and replacing it with a new PVC membrane roof system.

First, RSS installed rigid roof insulation panels consisting of a closed-cell polyisocyanurate foam core bonded on each side to a premium performance coated glass facers. The polyisocyanurate insulation system keeps energy and heat loss to a minimum, increasing the building’s energy efficiency and delivering lower monthly operating costs. It also possesses a high level of inherent fire resistance when compared to other foam plastic insulations. This is due to its unique structure of strong polyisocyanurate chemical bonds.

Then, roof recovery boards applied in low-rise foam adhesives were installed, along with saddles, crickets, and tapered edge strips. The crickets were installed on both the high side of the roof curbs and penetrations to properly divert the water.

RSS also installed a drip edge, copings, termination bars, gutters, downspouts, and fascia fabricated from sheet metal, by the latest ANSI / SPRI ES-1 and ASCE-7 requirements.

RSS used an 80-mil fleece-backed reinforced PVC membrane roofing, which is a reliable and versatile membrane suitable for all types of single-ply systems that are guaranteed up to 20 years. This fully-adhered system is recommended for applications over an existing substrate where the use of mechanical fasteners is unfeasible. The insulation was added by using low-rise adhesive, with the membrane being fully adhered to the insulation after it was secure.

RSS provided Monsanto with all labor, material, tools, equipment, and supervision necessary to complete the reroof installation of the 6,686 square foot roof. The roofing project at R Building lasted three months, ending in March 2018.
