What is a green roof?

A green roof (sometimes called a vegetated roof) is a plant-filled rooftop system that offers an attractive and energy-saving alternative to a conventional rooftop. It helps to keep buildings cooler, saves on energy and extends the life of a roof. Not to mention the aesthetic quality and additional usable space it adds.

The TectaGreen System

The TectaGreen system is unique in that it is more than just a rooftop garden—the plants are actually part of the rooftop. We build a system of layers consisting of growing medium and specially selected plants on top of an enhanced traditional roofing system.

The TectaGreen specially engineered system of layers includes:

  • Individually chosen plants for unique applications
  • Lightweight growth media to provide plant support and nutrients
  • Filter mat which allows water to soak through as well as prevent erosion
  • Drainage layer to store water and keep growth media aerated
  • Membrane protection layer to prevent damage
  • High-quality waterproof roofing system

GreenWise
Green roofs have been popular across Europe since the 1980s because of state grants and municipal planning policies. Countries such as Germany now benefit from over 10 million square meters of green roof space.
