The right material makes all the difference.

Traditional dark roofs absorb UV rays from the sun and can get surface temperatures up to 160 degrees or higher on a hot day. Underneath, the building heats up, causing the cooling system to work harder and become less efficient.

The use of white membranes or coatings has been proven to reduce this effect. The Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) measures cool roofs on two aspects: reflectivity and emissivity. They combine to form an overall measure, the Solar Reflective Index (SRI), with cool roofing systems having a positive effect on SRI.

The right system can save you big.

Studies show that building owners can save 20-70% in cooling costs, according to a Department of Energy study. And it is quickly becoming a requirement, with recent legislation like Title 24 in California and the Chicago Conservation Energy Code.

Why cool roofs?

  • Less need for air conditioning means lower utility bills
  • Decreased roof maintenance costs and a longer roof life
  • Low-cost way to meet building energy efficiency codes
  • Achieve significant savings and tax credits through local and state regulations
  • Improved overall comfort
