Tecta America New England Completes Solar Project Utilizing Massachusetts Incentives and Federal ITC

Skokie, Illinois, (July 20, 2010) – Tecta America recently installed  a large-scale photovoltaic installation on the Pearson Ventures Office Building in Billerica,  Massachusetts. The rooftop will be accessible to visitors allowing prospective customers to view the system in place.

TectaSolar provides a turnkey solar power solution, from concept-through-completion management of any solar project including the myriad permits, governmental incentive programs, installation, utility connections and maintenance contracts.   Tecta America is also the largest commercial roofing company in the United States, our depth of resources and financial strength is a comforting fact for owners concerned with their valuable roofing asset.   Tecta is the only company that can warrant the solar and the roof under a single  warranty.

“In addition to providing solar financing, installation and warranties, as a roofing company, we provide our customers with peace of mind in knowing we also have the proper safety procedures in place,” said Brett Chapman, President of Tecta America New England. “And ensuring the rooftop is in optimal condition prior to installation means that the roof itself will last the life of the solar system in place.”

Massachusetts incentives coupled with the 30% Federal Investment Tax Credit (due to change from a cash grant to a tax credit on Dec. 31, 2010) made this a lucrative opportunity.  There was no initial cash outlay and the system is estimated to produce approximately $450,000 positive cash flow over 25 years, while locking in low electricity rates.

The  30,000 square foot roof features an energy output of 143 kWp, utilizing Schuco MPE 220Watt modules and Schuco’s ezFlatRoof 2.0 PV Mounting System. The SatCon 135 kW Inverter will allow data monitoring through a web-based system utilizing SatCon PV Plus. The system is estimated to produce between 3.575 and 4.6475 million kWh over the next 25 years.   To view the data monitoring, go to www.pvviewplus.com, username: tectaamerica1 and password: tectasolar.

Environmental benefits include:

  • Up to 6.4 million lbs of reduced  carbon dioxide production
  • 18 thousand lbs. of reduced sulfuroxide (acid rain)
  • 11.4 thousand lbs. reduction in nitrogen oxides which produce ground level ozone and smog.
  • Estimated to offset oil dependency by nearly 11 thousand barrels,

Management

Brett Chapman, Co-President
Mr. Chapman graduated from the University of Massachusetts’ Isenberg School of Management in 1985 with a BBA in Marketing and has been in the roofing industry ever since. After being an Estimator and Project Manager for several years at Nightingale Roofing, Mr. Chapman went on to start his own firm in 1988 along with Peter Owens. In 2007 they were approached with the idea of merging with Tecta America. Tecta had divisions all over the country, with the exception of New England. The concept of being able to provide better service and less cost to the customer and being able to offer more opportunities to his employees made their decision to merge very simple. Since the merger Mr. Chapman has maintained his role as Manager of the New England divisions and has kept on all of the original employees.

Peter Owens, Co-President
Mr. Owens attended Plymouth State in Plymouth New Hampshire from 1976 to 1980 with a BS in Geology and a minor in business. After spending four years in the ski industry, Mr. Owens went into the roofing business. After being the General Manager of Nightingale Roofing in Hollis New Hampshire for several years, Mr. Owens went on to start his own firm in 1988 along with Brett Chapman. In 2007 they were approached with the idea of merging with Tecta America. Tecta had divisions all over the country, with the exception of New England. The concept of being able to provide better service and less cost to the customer and being able to offer more opportunities to employees made the decision to merge very simple. Since the merger Mr. Owens has maintained his role as Manager of the New England divisions and has kept on all of the original employees.

Jay Maschmeier, Corporate Director of Operations and Safety
Mr. Maschmeier has been in the roofing trade his entire life and spent the better part of the last ten years supervising a field of over 170 employees for the New England Division of Tecta America. Our quality and safety record are a reflection from his efforts. Over the years Tecta America has collected every major manufacturer’s award for quality excellence and our worker’s compensation rate is one of the lowest in the industry. In 2009, Mr. Maschmeier was awarded the National Safety Excellence Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors. Less than 100 contractors were recipients of this distinction, selected from a pool of 94,000 applicants.

Peter Denn, Vice President and General Manager
Mr. Denn joined the New England division of Tecta America in 1994, where he served as Project Manager of several different types of projects. This work included re-roofs, new projects, and historic restoration at many prestigious private New England schools, including The Groton School, Dexter School, Middlesex School and Phillips Exeter Academy. These projects ranged from new construction using the most state-of-the-art roof systems to historic restorations using slate and copper systems.

Additionally, Mr. Denn was the Project Manager for a 400,000 square foot production facility constructed for Evergreen Solar. This facility was started in early 2008 and has just been completed, and is now in full production to meet the company’s overseas needs.
