Roofing Apprenticeship Program at Schwickert’s is a Win-Win

Our five year, state-approved roofing apprenticeship educational program would not have gotten started without the commitment and support of company leaders. Our management team implemented this initiative as they knew that despite the short-term costs, the long range return on investment would yield results ten-fold. The success of the program permeates throughout our company.  The program has lead to increased employee retention, a reduction in injuries due to safety training as a mandatory part of the curriculum, and more satisfied customers as our employees are enabled to perform at their maximum potential and produce exceptional work.

Schwickert’s, a Tecta America Company, was founded 1906 when George Schwickert believed that quality products and service at a reasonable price were the foundation required to build customer satisfaction and a sound business. He opened his hardware store on Main Street in Mankato, MN with those principles.

From that foundation Schwickert’s became a complete mechanical and roofing contractor servicing the Upper Midwest region.  

Schwickert’s integrates Design/Build, Mechanical Piping, Mechanical HVAC, Roofing and Architectural Sheet Metal to provide our clients with exceptional value and peace of mind. This integrated approach combines three critical elements: your people, your process and your facility—to guarantee that your project will meet or exceed your expectations.

In 2000, Schwickert’s merged with other highly-regarded regional roofing contractors to form Tecta America, which grew to become the nation’s largest, most recognized, commercial roofing firm.

Kim Schwickert, President
A graduate of the University of Minnesota with a Business Administration Degree, Kim has been active with the company since 1977 on a full-time basis. As President, he oversees company planning, fixed assets and contract negotiations along with directing the operations of commercial and residential roofing, as well as commercial and residential HVAC installation and services.

He is currently on the President's Council of Tecta America, served as Chairman of the Technical and Research Committee for the Midwest Roofing Contractors Association, and was Director for the South Central College and Technical School in Mankato.

Kent Schwickert, President
Kent Schwickert graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1982 with Degrees in both Economics and Finance. He also graduated from the Dunwoody Technical Institute after undergoing their Construction Estimating Program.

Kent joined Schwickert's in 1982 and performed the duties of a mechanical piping/ plumbing estimator and project manager until 1985. In 1985, he was named President of Schwickert's Rochester Office and Operations Manager of Schwickert's Mankato Office. In 1987, he became President of both offices, sharing the responsibilities with Kim Schwickert. Mr. Schwickert oversees the sales and marketing efforts, operations activities, and administrative duties. Additionally, he is the Director of Vendor Relations for Tecta America.

Kent Schwickert currently serves as an active member of the President's Council of Tecta America, serving on several operating committees.
