On December 15th Tecta America Carolinas installed a solar array for ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition. The grid-tied 5.6kW DC photovoltaic system was engineered with 24-230w Motech modules mounted on the Quick Mount system. The system also used the Motech Power Mate 5300 inverter. The retail cost of this system would have been over $30,000.00. The output, estimated at 49,000kWH of alternating current per year, will offset 85,000 lbs of CO2 and save 100 barrels of oil. The system will displace about 40% of the family’s electricity usage and will be able to be monitored by the family.
Project Manager on the Extreme Home Makeover Edition site for Tecta America Carolinas was Tim Munson. Not only did he coordinate Tecta Carolinas’ donation, he personally donated some of his time to the project, and spent a straight 27 hours onsite as one of the Extreme Makeover Home Edition’s team of 3000 volunteers.
Not only were we able to provide a solution to help the family save on their power bill, we were able to provide a “green” solution and help the environment also!
