2009 Illinois Green Roof Grant

 

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity unveiled a new Green Roofs Grant Program funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.  The focus of this program is to support the development of cost effective green roof projects that will increase energy efficiency, clean and retain stormwater, mitigate the “Urban Heat Island Effect” and will stimulate green job creation.

 

Award

The maximum grant award is $100,000 for a green roof project.  The maximum incentive for the program is $10 per sq. ft.

 

Program Deadlines:

  • Application Deadline: October 1, 2009 4:30pm CST
  • Project Completion: All projects must be completed prior to February 17, 2012

 

Eligibility

 

  • Project must be situated in a city in Illinois with a population of over 50,000 people

 

  • The Green Roof installer must be licensed in Illinois and maintain appropriate insurance coverage

 

  • Growing media, drainage materials, and plants should be supplied by greenhouses, landscape businesses, retail outlets, and green roof contractors or otherwise supplied in such a manner as not to significantly disturb the land or environment.

 

  • All new construction green roof projects must have substantially completed all NEPA required environmental assessments or environmental impact statements prior to or at the time of application in order to be considered for an award.
